Free reference library for Australian clubs, schools and businesses

Custom Clothing Guides and Resources

This is the full VS Wear library of custom clothing guides. Nine long-form guides written for the people who actually place the order: the club secretary chasing sizes, the uniform coordinator with a committee to answer to, and the business owner who wants staff to look the same in every photo.

Every guide is free, nothing is gated, and none of it asks you to buy first. Read the one that matches your sport or your industry, then bring your questions to our team.

Uniform guides for six Australian sports

Each sport asks something different of a uniform. A libero needs contrast a scorer can read from the bench. A hockey sock has to hold a shin guard for seventy minutes. A cricket shirt has to survive a January carnival. These guides deal with those specifics rather than repeating the same generic advice under six different headings.

Volleyball

Jerseys versus singlets, the libero contrast most Australian competitions expect, number sizes referees and scorers can actually read, and fabric that survives repeated floor contact. Volleyball is also our one exception on quantity: the minimum is 10 units rather than 20.

Field hockey

Field hockey covers more garment decisions than almost any sport. Jerseys or singlets on top, then shorts, skirts, skorts or dresses below, socks that hold shin guards through a full match, and a layout that carries every club sponsor cleanly.

Soccer

Clubs at every level are moving past off-the-shelf templates towards kits built around their own history, colours and sponsors. The guide treats the kit as one system: jersey, shorts and socks designed to work together rather than three separate purchases.

Softball

Diving catches, slides through grit and all-day carnivals in January heat. This one covers the full kit decision for clubs running juniors, women's fastpitch and mixed social sides out of the same uniform budget.

Read the custom softball uniforms guide

Baseball

Nine innings in summer sun, slides into red dirt, and a look that carries a century of tradition. The guide runs through the whole team system, from button-front jerseys through to caps, pants and training layers.

Read the custom baseball uniforms guide

Cricket

Playing shirts, pants, caps and training gear in your club's own design, colours and sponsors instead of bought off the shelf. Traditional whites versus coloured one-day kit is the decision most Australian clubs get stuck on, so the guide starts there.

Beyond playing kit

Outerwear, corporate apparel and the master team guide

Three of the nine guides are not about a single sport. They cover the garments that get worn most often and are ordered least carefully: the club hoodie, the coach jacket, the staff polo and the full club-wide uniform program.

Jackets, hoodies and outerwear

Custom jackets are the hardest-working garments a team owns. A club hoodie gets worn to training, to school and to the shops. A coach jacket stands on an exposed sideline all winter. A corporate softshell walks into client meetings. The guide explains how to choose for each of those jobs.

Corporate branded clothing

Workwear, polos, shirts and outerwear carrying your company's logo and colours, made to order rather than pulled from a catalogue. Done well it gives every staff member the same professional look, from the front counter to the site visit.

The master team uniforms guide

Playing kit, training gear and off-field wear made to your team's own design instead of pulled from a catalogue. Start here if you are building one identity across every grade, sport and season your club runs.

What is inside every guide

Written for the person who has to place the order

The guides are long because uniform decisions are made by committee and then live for three seasons. Each one is structured so you can skim to the section you need rather than read the lot.

  • Garment options and cuts, including the women's, men's and junior fits that matter for that sport.
  • How sublimation, embroidery, applique and screen printing differ, and when each one is the right call.
  • Sizing and size sets, including how to run a try-on before you commit numbers.
  • Design and layout advice for logos, sponsors, player names and numbers.
  • Reordering, so a new player in round six can be matched to the original production files.
  • Realistic timing, budgeting and a plain checklist of what to send us when you are ready.

Practical tools

Reference pages to use alongside the guides

The guides answer the what and the why. These four pages answer the how, and they are the ones our customers keep open in another tab while they finalise a design.

Pantone colour reference

Colour is the single most common source of disagreement on a uniform order. Give us a Pantone reference and everyone is working from the same number instead of a description.

Use the guides to compare suppliers

What to check before you commit a season's uniform budget

These guides are useful even if you do not order from us. Take the questions in them to any supplier you are considering, then compare the answers side by side.

Is the design service free?

Ours is. Professional design costs you nothing, and mock-up revisions stay unlimited after you place the order, right through to design approval.

What is the real turnaround?

We guarantee 3 to 4 weeks from design approval. Ask any supplier when their clock starts, because that is where most timelines quietly blow out.

What happens if it is wrong?

We back every order with a 100% remake guarantee where the finished garments do not match the approved artwork or approved production files.

What is the minimum?

Twenty units on most garments, and ten on volleyball. Factory-direct pricing means 30 to 40% savings on premium quality compared with typical retail uniform suppliers.

Which guide should you read first

Three common starting points, depending on who you are and what you have been asked to sort out.

Club committee

Start with the master team uniforms guide to set the identity, then read your sport guide for the garment detail. Most clubs then add the outerwear guide before the winter order.

Browse custom sports uniforms

School or college

Schools usually need one look across several sports plus hoodies and polos. Read the master guide, then the sport that carries your biggest squad numbers.

Business or organisation

Go straight to the corporate branded clothing guide, then use the outerwear guide for jackets and softshells that need to work outdoors and in front of clients.

Common questions

Guides and resources FAQs

Do I have to pay or give my email to read the guides?

No. All nine guides are free to read on this site with nothing gated behind a form. You only contact us when you actually want a quote or a mock-up.

How current are the guides?

They are written for the current Australian season and reviewed as products, fabrics and competition expectations change. Each guide carries its year in the title so you can see what you are reading.

My sport is not in the list. Can you still help?

Yes. We produce uniforms for AFL, netball, rugby, basketball, lawn bowls, e-sports and general training as well as the six sports covered by a dedicated guide. Tell us the sport and we will advise on garments directly.

What is the minimum order?

Twenty units on most garments. Volleyball is the exception at ten units. The minimum applies per garment type, not per design, so a mixed order of jerseys and shorts counts separately.

How long does an order take once I have read a guide and decided?

We guarantee 3 to 4 weeks from design approval. The design stage before that depends on how quickly your committee signs off the mock-ups, which is why we keep revisions unlimited.

Do the guides tell me what a uniform will cost?

They explain what drives cost rather than quoting a fixed price, because quantity, garment mix and decoration all move the number. For an actual figure, request a free quote and we will price your exact list.

Can you design the uniform for me if I do not have artwork?

Yes. Professional design is free, and you get unlimited mock-up revisions after you place the order and right through to design approval. Most clubs send us a logo, some colours and a rough idea.

How do I match my club's exact colours?

Give us a Pantone reference. The Pantone guide on this site lets you pick and confirm codes so the colour on the garment matches what your committee approved rather than what a screen showed.

Can I reorder a few extra later in the season?

Yes. We keep your approved production files, so a mid-season top-up is matched to the original order rather than redesigned from scratch.

Do you deliver outside the capital cities?

We ship Australia-wide, including regional and rural addresses. Plenty of the clubs in our gallery are a long way from a capital city.

If your question is not answered here, email hello@vswear.com.au and a real person will reply.
