Soccer Uniform Guide

Ultimate Custom Soccer Uniforms & Team Kits: Australian Guide (2026)

The world game is booming in Australia, and clubs at every level are moving past off-the-shelf templates to kits designed around their own history, colours and sponsors. A custom soccer uniform is a full system: jersey, shorts and socks engineered to move through 90 minutes, plus the goalkeeper kit, training bibs and sideline wear that make a club look like a club.

This guide covers everything a team manager needs before ordering: kit anatomy, fabric, sublimation and sponsors, collars and cuts, goalkeeper gear, junior and women's football, winter outerwear and the ordering process itself. VS Wear supplies all of it factory-direct, saving Australian clubs 30 to 40% on premium quality.

The Four Pieces of a Complete Soccer Kit

A soccer kit succeeds or fails piece by piece. Here is what each garment has to do, and what to look for when you order.

The jersey

The centrepiece. Custom soccer jerseys from VS Wear use lightweight moisture-wicking polyester with mesh ventilation panels placed at the underarms and back, four-way stretch so the shirt moves with the player, and flatlock seams that will not chafe across a full match. Reinforced stitching at the shoulders and side seams handles the grabbing and pulling that comes with corner-kick chaos.

The shorts

Custom soccer shorts need an athletic cut that sits above the knee and never restricts the striking leg. An elastic waistband with an internal drawcord keeps them secure through sprints and slide tackles, and the same four-way stretch fabric carries the movement.

The socks

Socks do more work than they get credit for. The custom soccer socks range includes targeted cushioning in high-impact zones, reinforced heels and toes, graduated compression and stay-up elastic bands that hold shin pads in place without a roll of tape. Hoops, stripes and solid designs all print to match the kit.

The training bibs

Breathable mesh soccer bibs in bright fluoro colours, with optional club logos and numbering from 1 to 99, turn Tuesday training from park kickabout into academy session. Reversible designs give coaches two team colours in one garment.

Strips

Home, Away and Goalkeeper Kits

Every club eventually meets the team that wears its colours. Planning home, away and keeper strips together is cheaper and cleaner than bolting them on later.

The home strip carries the classic club identity. The away or clash strip works best as the same design language on a reversed or contrasting base, so photos from any fixture still read as your club. Ordering both in one run means one design process and guaranteed colour consistency between the two.

The goalkeeper is not an afterthought

Keepers need to stand out from both teams in a crowded box, which is why goalkeeper kits lean on high-visibility colours like fluoro green, orange and yellow. Long sleeve options suit keepers who prefer covered arms on hard or synthetic grounds, and ribbed cuffs keep sleeves in place at full stretch. VS Wear produces home, away and goalkeeper kit options within the one order.

Fabric

Fabric That Survives an Australian Football Season

Football is a winter sport played at summer intensity. The fabric has to manage sweat in round one heat and shrug off mud, rain and weekly washing by the finals.

Cool-Dry moisture control

Polyester micro-mesh draws sweat off the skin to the outer face of the jersey where it evaporates, so the shirt stays light instead of turning into a wet blanket in the final quarter of the match.

Stretch that moves with play

Four-way stretch knit lets the jersey follow a lunging tackle or an overhead clearance rather than fighting it, and helps the shirt snap back into shape afterwards.

Built for contact

Reinforced double stitching and flatlock seams take the pulling, sliding and physical contact of a contested season without splitting or chafing.

Colour that stays

UV-resistant, quick-dry materials handle outdoor Australian conditions, and sublimated colour holds its vibrancy through a full season of washing, from round one to grand final day.

The same fabric standards run through the entire soccer uniforms range, outdoor and futsal alike.

Design

Sublimation, Sponsors and Designs That Tell a Story

The era of rubbery screen-printed numbers peeling after three washes is over. Sublimation fuses the design into the fabric itself, and it changes what a club kit can be.

Because sublimated ink lives inside the fibre, logos and numbers add zero weight, block no airflow, and never crack, peel or fade. A design can use unlimited colours, photographic gradients and full-bleed patterns for exactly the same price as a plain shirt.

Sponsors without surcharges

Sponsorship keeps amateur football alive, and sublimation makes it profitable. Front, back, sleeves and shorts placements all print in the one pass, so the club can sell tiered sponsor packages without paying per logo. Plan the hierarchy early: major sponsor on the chest, second tier on the upper back, local supporters on sleeves and shorts.

Indigenous and cultural designs

Some of the most striking kits in Australian football carry Indigenous artwork. Sublimation reproduces intricate dot work and storytelling elements that traditional printing never could, whether for a NAIDOC round strip or a permanent club design. Tom Price Soccer Club's NAIDOC kits below show what is possible when a club brings local art to its uniform.

Corporate and event teams use the same canvas: the Neds and TAB world cup jerseys in our gallery were built on identical technology. Have artwork or just an idea? Email it to hello@vswear.com.au and the design team will show you what it looks like on a kit.

Fit

Collars, Cuts and Getting the Fit Right

Small details decide whether a kit feels elite or borrowed. Collars and cuts are the two that matter most.

Collar options

  • Modern round neck: clean and non-restrictive, the default for contemporary kits.
  • Classic V-neck: a touch looser at the throat, preferred by players who dislike snug collars.
  • Traditional fold collar: the heritage look, in a soft construction that sits flat at sprint pace instead of flapping.

Athletic or club cut

An athletic fit tapers at the waist and arms, giving opponents less shirt to grab, which is why elite squads favour it. The standard club cut runs relaxed and inclusive, the right call for junior and social football where comfort keeps players in the game. Both cuts are available across the range, and different squads within one club can order different cuts off the same design.

Torn between cuts? Request a quote and mention it; sample garments are available for fit checking before the full order goes to production.

The Whole Club

Juniors, Women's Football and Academy Programs

Football clubs are rarely one team. They are forty. The kit program has to work for the under-6s, the women's firsts and everyone between.

Junior football lives on durability and easy reordering. Sizing runs from junior sizes through to adult 7XL across the range, jersey and shorts sizes mix freely within an order, and designs stay on file so January's registration surge can be kitted in matching gear without redesigning anything.

Women's and girls' football is the fastest-growing part of the Australian game, and kits should reflect the squads wearing them. Kanwal Bulls' female players marked the club's 50th year in their own commemorative jerseys, and Shepparton City fields entire girls' programs in matching VS Wear kit.

Academy programs benefit most from consistency: one master design carried from under-6s to seniors makes every age group visibly part of the same pathway, exactly how professional academies operate.

Sideline

Coaches, Committee and the Supporter Army

Visiting teams judge a club by its sideline as much as its starting eleven. Coordinated gear off the pitch builds the culture that wins on it.

For the technical area, breathable coaches' polos and track pants look organised and survive demonstration drills. Committee volunteers running the gate and canteen are easier to find in embroidered polos or woven shirts, which adds a welcome layer of order to busy match mornings.

Supporters are the fun part. Heavyweight hoodies keep parents warm through 8am junior kickoffs, scarves get waved after goals, and bucket hats handle the summer pre-season. Stocked in the canteen, supporter merchandise turns sideline pride into steady club revenue.

Winter Gear

Outerwear for a Winter Code

Australian football is a winter game. Wet Melbourne nights and frosty Canberra mornings are part of the season, and cold muscles are an injury risk no club should carry.

Lightweight rain jackets keep training moving through drizzle without overheating players, spray jackets shrug off wind on exposed grounds, and puffer jackets keep substitutes and coaching staff genuinely warm on the bench. Matching tracksuits complete the walk-in look for representative squads.

Keeping kit alive through a muddy season

Winter football is brutal on fabric, and a few habits stretch a kit's life by seasons. Rinse mud off before it dries rather than letting it set through the week. Wash jerseys inside out in cold water, without fabric softener, which clogs the moisture-wicking weave. Line dry out of direct sun instead of tumble drying, and keep kits out of the same load as towels and velcro. Sublimated colour will not fade in the wash, but seams and fabric last longest when the washing machine is not fighting a week-old mud cake.

Share those rules in the team group chat at the start of the season; the kit manager will thank you by August.

FAQs

What Soccer Clubs Ask Before Ordering

The answers below cover the questions that reach our inbox most weeks.

What is the minimum order for custom soccer uniforms?

VS Wear's general minimum is 20 units per design, which suits a full squad with substitutes. Jerseys, shorts and socks can combine in one order, and junior and adult sizes mix freely within it.

Can every jersey have a different name and number?

Yes. Names and numbers are part of the sublimated print and included in the price. You provide a simple spreadsheet matching sizes to numbers and names, and every shirt comes out individualised at no extra cost.

How long does a custom soccer kit take?

Production is guaranteed at 3 to 4 weeks from design approval at VS Wear. Allow another couple of weeks beforehand for design rounds and sizing collection, so starting about 8 weeks before season kickoff is comfortable.

Do you make goalkeeper kits too?

Yes. Home, away and goalkeeper kits can all be produced in one order. Keeper strips typically use high-visibility contrast colours and long sleeve options, designed to complement the outfield kit rather than clash with it.

Can you match our exact club colours?

Yes. VS Wear matches colours using the Pantone system, working from your Pantone codes, physical samples or clear photos of existing gear. That keeps the new kit consistent with your crest, existing merchandise and previous seasons' uniforms.

What sizes do soccer kits come in?

From junior sizes up to adult 7XL, with detailed size charts supplied alongside every quote. Sample garments are available for fit checking, and size charts stay consistent for future reorders.

Is sublimation better than screen printing for football kits?

For full custom designs, yes. Sublimation infuses ink into the fabric so designs cannot crack or peel, adds no weight, keeps the fabric breathable and includes unlimited colours and sponsor logos in one price. Screen printing still suits simple one-colour jobs on stock garments, but full kits are sublimation territory.

Can we put multiple sponsors on the kit?

Yes, and it costs nothing extra per logo. Front chest, upper back, sleeves and shorts are all printable placements, which lets clubs build tiered sponsorship packages and grow kit revenue rather than kit costs.

Do you supply futsal and indoor teams?

Yes. The soccer range covers outdoor and futsal formats with the same customisation, and indoor competition teams order through the identical process, usually with lighter scheduling pressure than winter clubs.

How do reorders work when new players join?

Designs and production files remain on file at VS Wear, so top-up orders print identically to the original run, and consistent sizing charts mean a size M this season matches a size M next season. Most clubs reorder in January when registrations land.

What if the delivered kit does not match our approved design?

The VS Wear remake guarantee covers it completely: any garments that fail to match your approved artwork or production files are remade at no cost. Approval sign-off is the reference point, so review the final mock-up carefully.
