Working back from round one

The field codes here open in early April, at the tail of the wet, and the Australian rules season starts with a split round one across two April weekends before running through to finals in early September.

Production takes 3 to 4 weeks from the day you approve the design. Design and approval sit in front of that, and how long they take is up to your committee, not us.

Professional design is free, drawn by our in-house team from your colours, logo and ideas. Once your order is placed, mock-up revisions are unlimited right through to design approval.

Count backwards from that April opening and the design conversation belongs in January or February, in the middle of the wet. That is inconvenient and it is also the only window a Far North committee genuinely has.

Two seasons, not four, and what that does to an order

Far North Queensland runs on a wet season from December to April and a dry from May to November, and the sporting calendar is built around that rather than around winter and summer. The field codes are pushed into the dry. Cricket runs the other way, from mid-September to the end of March under Cricket Far North. So the usual shorthand about winter codes and summer codes describes very little of what happens here.

The ordering window is the wet

The months when a committee has the time to sit down over a design are exactly the months nobody is thinking about a uniform. Approving artwork in January or February feels early, but it is what puts gear on players for an April opening instead of three rounds into it.

How deep the grade lists go

The senior rugby league competition here carries eleven clubs across A grade, reserves and colts at under 18, and the junior competition carries twelve clubs across eleven grades from under 6 to under 16. That is a very large number of separate sides for one city, and it is why an order placed at club level rather than grade by grade saves a committee most of its work.

Two codes, two opposite decisions

A club running a field code and cricket is making its two uniform decisions at opposite ends of the year, because one season opens as the other is finishing. Keeping both designs on the one approved artwork set is what stops them drifting apart across a cycle that never lines up.

The weeknight layer

Cairns Netball Association runs its junior competitions on Tuesdays, from NetSetGo through 10 and under, 12 and under, 14 and under, junior boys and intermediates at 18 and under, with pathways on to representative netball. Uniforms are designed and produced centrally, then freighted to whichever address your club or school nominates, whether that is a clubhouse, a home ground or a school office.

Cairns is the service centre for the whole Far North, so freight arrives here before it goes anywhere else in the region, and an order placed with the wet in mind rather than against it removes the only timing risk worth worrying about.
