Football Queensland Sunshine Coast is the zone that governs soccer here, and it carries 23 affiliated clubs stretching from Bribie Island in the south to Gympie in the north. Running alongside it, the Sunshine Coast Churches Soccer Association fields a separate competition of 19 clubs and 3,950 registered players across juniors, senior men and senior women. A committee ordering strips on the Coast is usually in one of those two structures, and both run through the winter months.
The Sunshine Coast Gympie Rugby League competition carries 16 clubs across its senior and junior divisions, and not every club fields in both. Junior grades run from under-sixes to under-twelves mixed, under-thirteens to under-seventeens for boys, and under-elevens, thirteens, fifteens and seventeens for girls. Round one was played on 28 and 29 March, with round 15 on 25 and 26 July, so the whole home and away programme is squeezed into the mildest part of a subtropical year.
The Sunshine Coast Netball Association at Maroochydore hosts more than 10,000 games a year and draws over 60,000 people through its grounds. Australian football is junior-led and growing through clubs like the Glasshouse Hinterland Lions and the Kawana Park Eagles Junior AFL Club, while hockey has the Caloundra Seahawks and netball also runs at Landsborough through Tibros Netball Club. Maroochydore Multi Sports Complex alone holds four ovals and 20 netball courts.
